Rod Wave made good on his promise of free gas on Saturday when he gifted residents in his hometown $25,000 in free gasoline.
The “By Your Side” rapper was in St. Petersburg, Florida when hundreds of drivers lined up at the Sunoco Gas Station on 34th Street South. People from all over the city benefitted from the giveaway after announcing that he’d be filling up tanks in response to rising gasoline prices.
“It’s a hundred dollars to fill my tank right now, and with an SUV, it’s a big relief having this extra cushion,” said one resident Jazmina Jenkins.
The 22-year-old told local news station WFLA that he was moved to help out the city that has given so much to him over the years.
“It’s something for me on an everyday basis where it don’t really affect me as much, but I know there’s people out there who really need it,” he explained.
Wave made the revelation days ago that he would be gifting free gas to those in need after filming himself filling up his tank in an Instagram post. After seeing the high cost of gassing his own vehicle, the superstar knew he had to help the people of his community.
